Clot on the landscape! Warehouse bunglers give no warning

- By Adam Dutton and Callum Faulds

SHOCKED homeowners woke to find a 60ft-tall warehouse being put up on their doorsteps – after inept council planners consulted a street half a mile away.

Residents in Hooke Close, Corby, Northants, had no idea of plans for the industrial unit yards from their back gardens so did not object.

They then discovered the council had consulted people living on Hubble Road about the 160,800 sq ft depot.

The Hook Close residents say they are “living in hell”, claiming the construction is damaging their homes, will block out light and send house prices plummeting.

Georgie Wallis said: “If they’d consulted I would have obviously objected to it. How can you make such an error and wonder why no one has objected?”

Blighted

Jose Cruz, 64, said his semi is blighted and unsellable. The shop worker added: “It’s a nightmare. The building will leave our home in complete darkness.

“There used to be a Weetabix factory on the site but that was half the size of this monstrosity and had been dormant a long time.” Dad-of-two Kieran Joseph, 30, said: “The vibrations have caused a crack in our roof so the kids’ bedroom leaks.”

“The warehouse is going to be so big it blocks the light and they’ll be cars and lorries coming in and out of it at all hours.”

It has emerged Hubble Road was consulted as it also lies near a former Weetabix plant. It does not appear as if any of its residents objected to the eight-acre development.

North Northants Council apologised but said consent remained lawful as it had placed a notice on site and a press advert.
