Amy: I’ll be dancing for joy if I waltz back on Strictly

- By Mark Jefferies

BATTLING Strictly star Amy Dowden says it will “make her dancing heart happy” if she gets the call for another BBC series and returns for good.

The pro dancer, 33, shown below on the hit show, had a mastectomy after being diagnosed with stage three breast cancer last May.

Last week she shared the good news that her latest check-up has shown no evidence of the disease.

And she will soon be turning roving reporter on ITV’s

Lorraine show, giving celebrity interviews and behind-scenes broadcasts.

The Welsh dancer told host Lorraine Kelly yesterday: “Thank you so much for this opportunity. What a difference just a couple of months makes.”

She said: “I would love to return, to be back with my Strictly family. It would make my dancing heart happy so that’s the goal. I know it’s going to be a long process to get myself back on that dancefloor. But I think I’m going to enjoy every step of the way as well.” Amy said of her latest good health report: “I was so worried [the cancer] had spread to the bones, so I’ve just got this spring in my step and this smile on my face.”

She still requires a “brutal” injection once a month, but said: “I get another shot at life. I’m so grateful and lucky and I wake up every day and say thank you, because I know not everybody gets that opportunity.” Amy said during her treatment she made “pink sister friends that aren’t ever going to get that news, so I’m just going to go and grab life”. The dancer also paid tribute to “a beautiful soul”, ex-Strictly pro Robin Windsor, 44, who died last week.
