Abusive cop jailed after wife feared ‘another Sarah Everard’

- By Paul Jeeves Crime Editor ‘Control’...Rodrigues-Leite

A WIFE-beating police officer who romped with “transsexual prostitutes” behind her back has been jailed for abuse that left her fearing “another Sarah Everard”.

PC Isaque Rodrigues-Leite’s former spouse told a court yesterday his behaviour “escalated when he joined the Met”.

In her witness impact statement, she said: “I felt it was shameful when I had a husband who was a police officer who was abusing me. I don’t want another Sarah [Everard] dead.”

Croydon Crown Court heard the rogue constable, who served in the Met at the same time as Sarah’s murdererWayne Couzens and serial rapist David Carrick, imprisoned his wife in a caravan and a bedroom, drove his car into her and threatened her with a knife during regular bouts of rage.

He also repeatedly held the woman’s arms down and threatened to hurt her. The court was told he warned his terrified spouse that if she complained “no one will believe you because I am a police officer”.

Rodrigues-Leite, who was in the Roads and

Transport Policing Command, was jailed for two years, three months after being found guilty of false imprisonment, common assault, criminal damage and coercive control.

The couple met in 2010 and married in 2014 before the abuse began on New Year’s Day 2016. The court heard the relationship was “toxic” before Rodrigues-Leite’s behaviour escalated in the four months after he joined the Met in March 2019. In July that year, his wife found messages on his computer revealing he was “paying for sex with transsexual prostitutes”. She confronted him, sparking a row in which he blockaded her in their bedroom.

His wife eventually contacted police and Rodrigues-Leite was arrested and later sacked.

Det Supt Christina Jessah said: “The nature of this officer’s offending was abhorrent.”
