Kate is ‘strong enough to get through this’
THE Princess of Wales is coping with the news of her cancer diagnosis “better than people will realise”, a former royal adviser claims.
Paddy Harverson, who worked as a royal aide from 2004 to 2013, said Kate has always shown “great strength” and never wanted to make a fuss when she was asking her team of aides for help.
Asked how the Prince and Princess of Wales will be coping with the news, Mr Harverson told the BBC: “I think actually better than people realise. They are very strong, as a couple and individually.”
The ex-communications secretary added: “She always had this great strength and she didn’t want to make a fuss about it when she felt she needed help. I’m confident, as a couple and individually, they will get through this.”
It is believed Kate decided to make the announcement “two weeks ago” before speculation about her health proliferated online.
Timing
The release of the video was timed to coincide with the last day at Lambrook School in Berkshire before the Easter break for Kate’s three children Prince George, 10, eight-year-old Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, five.
Mr Harverson, 61, said speculation on social media did not impact the timing. He said: “I’m convinced that if we hadn’t had all the madness and social media, if we hadn’t had the sort of the Mother’s Day photo mistake, they would have still done it like this.”
He added that the speculation on social media was “the worst I’ve ever seen it”, adding: “It feeds off itself, it is sort of a permanent doom loop.”
Kensington Palace has refuted any suggestion that Kate’s announcement had anything to do with social media.
The Princess wrote every word of her video message and ruled out releasing just a written statement as she felt it would be “too jarring”, a close friend has revealed.
