Documentary: Kate Garraway: Derek’s Story, ITV1, 9pm
When her husband Derek Draper, a well-known former political aide, was diagnosed with Covid-19 in March 2020, journalist Kate Garraway – herself a famous TV broadcaster – found their lives turned upside down. Draper developed severe long Covid leading to numerous medical complications, and was cared for at home for many months before losing his battle to the virus in January 2024. In this moving documentary, Garraway (left, with Draper) shares what her husband’s final year was like – and she highlights the daily challenges faced by people living with serious illness, plus the difficulties and cost of caring for someone in their own home.
Factual: How To See A Black Hole: The Universe’s Greatest Mystery, BBC4, 11.20pm
A documentary two years in the making, following the work of top scientists on the Event Horizon Telescope project team led by astrophysicist Dr Sheperd Doeleman. The long-term project has linked together radio observatories and telescope facilities from across the globe in an effort to capture the world’s first image of a black hole – and provide definitive proof of the existence of these strange phenomena.
Film: The Girl In The Spider’s Web, Film4, 11.20pm
Claire Foy, Sylvia Hoeks and Sverrir Gudnason star in this crime thriller follow-on from hit film The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. Foy (above) returns as hacker Lisbeth Salander, who’s been hired by a worried scientist to remove all traces of invasive software able to control online defence systems. Devastating family secrets come to light, however, when Salander falls foul of “the Spiders”, a shadowy crime syndicate.
Sport: Live England International Football – England Vs Belgium, C4, 7pm
The second of two friendlies for Jude Bellingham and Phil Foden (above) and teammates against Belgium, kicking off at 7.45pm. Jill Scott, Joe Cole and Marouane Fellaini join Jules Breach for the home fixture, part of the preparation for this year’s Uefa Euro tournament. The teams last met in the Uefa Nations League in 2020, with Belgium avenging England’s initial 2-1 win with a later 2-0 victory.
Lifestyle: Sort Your Life Out With Stacey Solomon, BBC1, 9pm
Ever-energetic presenter Stacey (right) and her enthusiastic team are back, this time helping the Morrells to declutter and organise their home. As the clearout begins, the family are surprised to find more than 130 pairs of shoes, 500-plus items of babywear, some 22 toothbrushes and 30 remote controls. Dilly steps in to reorganise all the wardrobes, while carpenter Rob creates a wooden feature wall in mum and dad Charlie and Keith’s bedroom.
