‘Unacceptable’ for honeytrap victim to break MPs’ security
A FORMER Tory minister targeted in the Westminster honeytrap scandal has demanded action against MP William Wragg.
Dame Andrea Jenkyns said it was “unforgivable” that Mr Wragg gave out numbers of MPs, staff and a journalist to a man he met on gay dating app Grindr, believing he was being blackmailed.
Mr Wragg, 36, said he passed on the numbers because he was “scared” after sending the perpetrator explicit photos of himself.
The MP for Hazel Grove in Stockport apologised for his “weakness” and Chancellor Jeremy Hunt described his remorse as “courageous and fulsome”. But Dame Andrea, 49, said: “Unlike some MPs I am not happy with Wragg.
“As a mother with a young child who only recently had threats, it’s unforgivable of him to compromise the security of fellow MPs.Action is needed.
“I don’t believe he is ‘brave’ whatsoever! I think he is an idiot for compromising security.” Phishing messages were sent to at least 12 people following the leak.
Bosworth MP Dr Luke Evans said he was a victim of cyberflashing after being sent unsolicited explicit messages and images of a woman over WhatsApp. Police are investigating the incidents.
Dame Andrea said she received identical phishing to other targets over WhatsApp at the start of the year, which she reported to whips. She has previously said she’s received eight death threats since becoming MP for Morley and Outwood, West Yorks.
Reform UK party honorary president, Nigel Farage, said there was “a case” for Mr Wragg to be investigated after his “absolutely appalling” actions.
The Daily Express has contacted Mr Wragg for comment.
