Stephy will do his talking on pitch to shut up critics

-

STEPHY MAVIDIDI says Leicester winning promotion will “shut people up”.

The forward scored in the 87th minute to seal a 2-1 win against

Birmingham that put the Foxes back on top of the Championship.

He said: “I don’t know why but I just feel like everyone is against us, they don’t want us to go up.

“There is a lot of noise outside, whether that’s about our style of play, financial situation, just lots of unnecessary noise.

“I just like to shut people up – be that getting the goals or putting in the performances. That’s what we need to do, keep proving the doubters wrong.”

Norwich’s Jack Stacey celebrated his 28th birthday with a 1-0 win against Ipswich that knocked the Tractor Boys off the top of the table.

Marcelino Nunez’s first-half strike was enough to make it 14 straight Old Farm derbies without defeat for the Canaries.

Stacey said: “We had that belief going into the game, but it’s a good record against Ipswich that we wanted to keep intact.”

Josh Eccles turned 24 on Saturday and he celebrated by helping to keep Coventry’s play-off hopes alive with a 2-1 win against

Leeds.

Eccles, who provided the assist for Haji Wright’s winner after Ellis Simms had opened the scoring, said: “There are six games and still plenty of points to play for. Anything can happen. Look at us last season – it looked like we were not going to get it and then we lost one of our last 17 games and managed to sneak in comfortably.”

Middlesbrough took their unbeaten run to seven games with a 2-0 victory at home to Swansea.

But they remain six points adrift of the top six and now face a decisive spell with a trip to Hull on Wednesday followed by games against Ipswich and Leeds.

Head coach Michael Carrick said: “We’ve put a bit of a run together, we just have to try to extend that as long as we can.”

Fabio Carvalho says “father figure” Liam Rosenior is helping him fall in love with football again after scoring twice to earn Hull City a 3-1 win at

Cardiff. The striker took his tally to seven goals in 14 matches since joining the Tigers in January, and he hailed head coach Rosenior, saying: “He’s given me a platform to show what I’m capable of but, more importantly, show myself.

“I feel I’ve improved a lot here and matured off the pitch.”

Southampton manager Russell Martin said his side “lacked creativity” in a scoreless away draw against Blackburn.

He said: “We need a powerful end to the season. We have to keep at it.We don’t want to finish flat.

“We need a spring in our step – and to do that we have to change and rotate our squad.”
