From the heart of Roussillon, this medium-dry white is as refreshing as a shower on a hot day. Floral aromas followed by a crisp, rounded and mineral palate, a long finish and just a touch of saltiness. Available from Tannico.

2 Cadireta 2021, Domaine Lafage (£12.65, 13%)

This fresh, straw-coloured chardonnay boasts an intensely creamy palate and plenty of citrus flavours, lemon and lime to the fore, followed by a rounded, medium-dry finish. Available from Urban Grapes.

3 Maset des Montagnes 2019 (£12.99 13%)

Bone dry and best served straight from the fridge, this blend of macabeo and grenache blanc grapes is fresh and elegant. Subtle flavours of pear and apple tantalise the taste buds, while a floral aroma tickles the nose (in a nice way). Available from Waitrose.

4 Camí del Drac, Terres Fidèles (£13.99, 13%) Another really top-notch wine, featuring ripe, ever-so-slightly acidic flavours of peach and plum and just a hint of spice, coupled with elegant floral notes. Complex, mediumdry and very moreish. Available from Vine & Bine.

5 Dom Ici’ Rouge, Carignan 2022 (£11.99, 13.5%)

Another bright red, bursting with dark, raisiny fruitiness and aromas of spice and a hint of herbs. Silky smooth on the palate with a long, lingering finish. Available from Strictly Wine.

6 Bila Haut Rouge 2021 (13.75, 14%)

This lovely warm, mediumbodied red is just the thing to accompany rich, hearty meals. Big aromas of cherry on the nose and a rich, fleshy palate. Mouthwatering. Available from Laithwaites, Jaded Palates and Noble Green Wines.
