Pink-credibly popular

£4m house that has become a magnet for social media influencers

- By Jon King

A GRANDAD whose pink house has been named one of the world’s loveliest is braced for an “invasion” by social media influencers.

Peter Lee’s three-storey home has appeared in magazines and on TV around the world and was listed among the 19 most striking exteriors in the world by Australian Vogue.

The end-of-terrace house found more fame on an Instagram account called Accidentally Wes Anderson, featuring scenes that look as if they could come from a film by the Grand Budapest Hotel director.

Now tourists turn up every day to take photos and videos of themselves outside the property worth an estimated £4million in Notting Hill, west London.

Peter’s security cameras once spotted a fitness influencer doing the splits on his railings.

Another time he opened the door to a woman whose pet dog trotted straight into his front room.

But not all his neighbours are delighted with the attention. Peter, 79, said: “It’s a daily occurrence.A minority of people are annoyed about it – some famous people live around here. If I see something inappropriate I’d say something, but most of the time I find it amusing. It’s better than having a dull day.”

And now as the weather heats up he expects an “invasion” of social media influencers to turn up outside his home.

The retired fashion industry executive “fell in love” with the already pink house and paid £50,000 for it in 1978, putting down a 10% deposit as soon as he heard it was for sale. He said: “I knew it had potential and had a feeling it would be a happy house.” Dr Hayley Cocker, senior lecturer in marketing at Lancaster University, explained its appeal.

She said colourful backdrops, especially in pink, “can lead to greater engagement on the content, and thus greater potential for earning money” for influencers.
