Life is a Cabaret for Eddie as he’s given Tony nod

Redmayne up for best musical actor gong

EDDIE Redmayne may double his award haul for stage musical Cabaret after being nominated for a Tony honour in the US.

The Les Miserables film star has already won an Olivier for his turn as Emcee which he first performed in the West End.

Now Eddie, 42, is up for best leading actor in a musical at the Tonys, competing with Brody Grant in The Outsiders, Jonathan Groff (Merrily We Roll Along), Dorian Harewood (The Notebook) and Brian d’Arcy James (Days Of Wine And Roses).

The revival of Cabaret first turned the Playhouse Theatre into the Kit Kat Club then transferre­d to New York last month.

Seedy

The musical, set in a seedy between-the-wars Berlin nightclub, now stars Luke Treadaway and Cara Delevingne in London. Jessie Buckley was female lead Sally Bowles opposite Eddie originally but the singer is played by Gayle Rankin on Broadway – and she also gets a Tony nod for best actress in a musical. Succession’s Jeremy Strong is nominated as best actor in a play for An Enemy Of The People. His competitor­s are Michael Stuhlbarg for Patriots, Uncle Vanya’s William Jackson Harper, Leslie Odom Jr for his role in Purlie Victorious: A Non-Confederat­e Romp Through The Cotton Patch and Ray Liev Schreiber for Doubt:

A Parable. The Notebook star Rachel McAdams, Ocean’s 8’s Sarah Paulson and American Horror Story’s Jessica Lange are all nominated for the best actress in a play honour for their roles in Mary Jane, Appropriat­e and Mother Play respective­ly.The lineups were announced on US show CBS This Morning.

The winners will be revealed at the 77th awards at New York’s Lincoln Center on June 16 hosted by US actress Ariana DeBose.
