Harry saved my life and many others

- By Liz Perkins and Nathan Kay

A FORMER RAF sergeant has praised Prince Harry for helping her and many others turn their lives around.

Michelle-Turner moved the audience to tears at the Invictus Games service by reading a poem on Wednesday.

The mum told how taking part in the games saved her after she left the forces with a heart defect after 21 years.

She said: “Prince Harry has truly transformed lives with the Invictus Games. He really believes that people can recover from the worst injuries and trauma through sport and he has made a world of difference to people like me – we cannot thank him enough.”

Michelle, 43, husband John and daughter Maya received a standing ovation in St Paul’s Cathedral after reading the poem at the service to mark the Games’ 10th anniversary. Invictus, set up by Harry to help veterans, gave her the chance to compete in rowing, powerlifting and swimming – and she became the UK team vice captain.

Michelle, of Manchester, added: “The boss of the Invictus Games called us up and asked if we could prepare something for the cathedral.

“We were totally shocked and a bit overwhelmed to be honest but we also felt very honoured to be asked so we all chipped in and contributed our bits.We are delighted with the reaction.”

Meanwhile, a reliable source has scotched rumours Mike Tindall, 45, has been made a patron of the games.

The insider said of the ex-England rugby ace: “He attended a few events with Harry very early on but it’s not something he’ll take an active role in.”

He is focusing on his podcast, TV work and an extended stay in Australia with wife Zara and their children next year.
