Finally, it’s heating up!
AT last – Bake Britain is on the way, with a mini-heatwave tipped to send temperatures soaring to nearly 26C this weekend.
London yesterday revelled in 23C at the start of three days of forecast glorious weather.
Met Office experts said highs of 26C are possible in some areas of South East England tomorrow as the country enjoys warmer temperatures and blue skies following months of miserable weather.
Heavy rain had hit events on Bank Holiday Monday as “danger to life” thunderstorms and flood alerts affected South London plus Kent, Sussex, Surrey and Hampshire.
High pressure moving over Britain has brought along a mini-heatwave, but that will not extend to the far North and North West where showers and unsettled conditions are likely.
The Met Office’s Andrea Bishop said: “The temperatures will be slightly above average for the time of year and Saturday is looking like the warmest day this week, when temperatures could peak at 26C.” However the overdue summery weather is accompanied by a warning to hayfever sufferers amid high pollen forecasts. Ms Bishop went on: “We are encouraging people to take note of the pollen count and UV levels as these will both be high. If you do have hayfever, it may be unpleasant and you should take relief.” The warm spell will be brief as rainy and unsettled conditions sweep in by the end of the weekend due to a shift in the high pressure system. Met Office deputy chief meteorologist Tony Wisson said: “Many places will start fine and warm on Sunday, though it is likely to become cloudier from the west or south-west during the day. “This will be accompanied by scattered showers, which could be heavy with thunder. On Monday we’re likely to see more widespread and longer-lived spells of rain. This will also lead to a much cooler feel.”
