2 Co-op Irresistible Carménère 2021/2 (£8, 13.5%)

3 Veramonte Merlot 2018 (£10, 14%)
Another Chilean red, this time majoring on blackberry and raspberry on the palate, spicy notes with a hint of currant on the nose and a long finish, with a touch of oak. Currently reduced from £12.50. Available from Ocado.
4 Geyerhof StockWerk Zweigelt, Kremstal 2021 (£13.50, 12%)
A juicy Austrian red with notes of plum, cherry, raspberry and just a hint of rose petal that goes down smoothly with a fresh finish. Quite delicious. Available from The Wine Society.
5 Kokotos Three Hills Agiorgitiko 2021 (£14, 12.5%)
There’s no tragedy in this elegant, light Greek red, just subtle aromas of strawberry and rose petals and a dry, lip-smacking finish with the merest hint of oak. A handful of cabernet sauvignon grapes add to the blend. Available from Maltby & Greek.
6 Wakefield Estate Label Merlot 2020 (£14, 14%)
Black cherries, strawberries and a hint of chocolate on the nose make this medium-bodied merlot worth a try. And it really comes into its own with a long, fruit-filled finish – think plum and cherries. Available from Sandhams Wine, Vivino and Click N Drink.
