1. GOPI HINDUJA AND FAMILY, £37.2bn

Britain’s richest family made its fortune from the Mumbai-based conglomera­te Hinduja Group, which spans banking and finance, media and entertainm­ent, and energy. It has about 200,000 staff around the world. The family’s fortune is the largest ever recorded in the list.

2. SIR LEONARD BLAVATNIK, £29.25bn

Second-richest is a Ukrainianb­orn business magnate and philanthro­pist who built up his fortune in Russia. He took Warner Music public in June 2020 after buying it in 2011.

3. DAVID AND SIMON REUBEN AND FAMILY, £24.98bn

The brothers made their money through property and tech with their private equity firm Reuben Brothers. The pair were born in Mumbai and raised in the UK.

4. SIR JIM RATCLIFFE, £23.52bn

Manchester-born Sir Jim is founder and chair of global chemicals firm Ineos.

In February he bought a minority stake in Manchester United and now controls football operations.

He fell from second on the list after his wealth plunged by more than £6billion.

5. SIR JAMES DYSON AND FAMILY, £20.8bn

Founder of tech firm Dyson and inventor of the cyclone bagless vacuum cleaner in the 1970s. He has since moved into the beauty industry.

6. BARNABY AND MERLIN SWIRE AND FAMILY, £17.2bn

The Swire family’s fortune stems from Swire Group, a global business spanning property, transport and industrial­s.

Eton-educated chairman Barnaby is a sixth-generation descendant of the group’s founder.

Israeli businessma­n Idan is son of late shipping magnate Sammy. He has interests in shipping, energy, plus a stake in Spanish football club Atletico Madrid.

Indian-born Lakshmi is chair of ArcelorMit­tal, the vast internatio­nal steel manufactur­er. He is also a co-owner of Queen’s Park Rangers football club.

Garfield Weston founded Associated British Foods in 1935. It now owns Primark, produces sugar – and George is CEO.

John is a Norway-born shipping magnate who owns oil tankers and investment­s in fish farming, dry bulkers and deepwater drilling rigs.

Kirsten and brother Jorn inherited a stake in their grandfathe­r’s firm Tetra Laval, whose cartons revolution­ised the storage of drinks. Swedish-born Kirsten is involved in racing.

The Moscow-born mathematic­ian founded algorithmi­c trading company XTX Markets in 2015, which grew rapidly in the UK and has offices in New York, Paris and Mumbai.

The Preston-born financier is the co-founder and chief executive of successful hedge fund BlueCrest Capital Management.

14. CHARLENE DE CARVALHO-HEINEKEN AND MICHEL DE CARVALHO, £11.75bn

Charlene is a Dutch businesswo­man who inherited nearly a quarter stake in beer giant Heineken from her late father Freddy Heineken.

Hugh Grosvenor, 33, is the seventh duke and became a billionair­e on inheriting his title and the Grosvenor Estate in 2016. He is the richest person under 40.

Marit is the widow of Hans Rausing, who built up the Tetra Pak packaging business founded by his dad in 1944. Lisbet and Sigrid are their children.

Singapore-born Carrie inherited oil company Perenco after the death of husband Hubert Perrodo in 2006. Her son, amateur racing driver Francois, is now the chairman.

Nicky sold his family’s stake in diamond giant De Beers in 2012. He was the third generation of the family to run it, taking the company private in 2001.

Denise is co-founder and majority owner of online gambling giant Bet365. Her family ran betting shops in Stoke-on-Trent. Peter is her dad and John is her brother and, with Denise, joint chief executive.
