Outnumbered kids back home for Christmas

- By Emily Braeger

FAMILY sitcom Outnumbered is returning after eight years for a Christmas special – with a new generation to add to the laughs.

The hit comedy about the Brockmans and their three naughty children ran from 2007 to 2014 on BBC One, with its most recent episode being a Christmas special in 2016.

Now all of the original cast members will return for the one-off instalment, including Hugh Dennis, 62, and Claire Skinner, 59, who play parents Pete and Sue Brockman.

Their now-adult kids – Jake, Ben and Karen – are no less of a handful today, and one has even had a child of their own.

Yesterday Hugh said he “can’t wait” for the Brockmans to be reunited, adding: “Pete and Sue have downsized, the children are no longer children, but I’m sure family life will prove to be just as chaotic as ever.”

Claire added that she is “really looking

forward” to filming, as “working on this wonderful comedy doesn’t feel like work and is one of the greatest joys for us all”.

Ramona Marquez, 23, who plays Karen, regularly reunites with on-screen brothers Tyger Drew-Honey, 28, who plays Jake, and

Daniel Roche, 24, who plays Ben – and they all helped promote Red Nose Day this year.

The BBC’s director of comedy Jon Petrie said: “Outnumbered is one of the crown jewels of British sitcoms. We are so grateful to Hat Trick Productions and the cast for dusting it off and putting it back on display.”

Comedy fans were delighted by the news yesterday.

One tweeted: “So excited yes, my favourite sitcom is coming back for an Xmas special.”

Another said: “My real family are coming home for Christmas. I’ve missed my dad [Pete] so much.”

Outnumbered was watched by 9.4 million viewers at its peak.

Earlier this month it was announced that Gavin and Stacey, starring James Corden and Ruth Jones, will also return to BBC One this Christmas – five years after a festive special in 2019 – for its big finale.

CONFIRMATION that well-loved sitcom Outnumbered will return to our screens is an early Christmas present. It will be a joy to see the original cast reunited for a one-off special this December. We are told the Brockman family will be “older, but not necessarily wiser”.

Britain loves a comeback, as Lord Cameron demonstrated when he returned to Rishi Sunak’s Cabinet. Outnumbered ran for five hilarious series until 2014.We look forward to seeing the parents deal with the unique challenges that grown-up children bring. Family gatherings are a guaranteed source of drama and life’s richest comedy.
