George will join William at pitch perfect cup final

- By Emily Ferguson Royal Editor

PRINCE George will be with his father the Prince of Wales to watch the FA Cup today.

William, who is president of the Football Association, will take his seat in the Royal box at Wembley and will present the trophy to the winners.

His eldest son, who often attends football games with his dad, is expected to join him for the derby clash between Manchester City and Manchester United, according to a well-placed source.

Both are passionate Aston Villa fans and William, 41, regularly attends the FA Cup final.

George last joined his father at a football game on April 11, where they cheered on Villa as they defeated Lille in the Europa Conference League quarter-final.

The 10-year-old wore a Villa scarf as the pair applauded and smiled after their team won 2-1. It marked their first public appearance since the Princess of Wales revealed her cancer diagnosis in March following planned abdominal surgery.

She is undergoing preventative treatment.

The Villans bowed out of the FA Cup in February after a 3-1 home defeat to Chelsea. But William hailed the Midlands club last week for qualifying to play Champions League football next season, praising their “historic season” and “amazing achievement”.

It comes days after the Royal Family announced they would be postponing engagements “which may appear to divert attention or distract from the election campaign”.

The stand-down follows PM Rishi Sunak calling a snap General Election for July 4.

William was due to carry out engagements on Thursday but cancelled them at the last minute.

The King also pulled out of a series of visits scheduled for this week.

But D-Day commemorations will go ahead as planned and ceremonial events such as Trooping the Colour and Order of the Garter are expected to be given the green light.
