1 MY HIT ALBUM

All the travelling I do for work is great but I’m happiest relaxing here with my partner Gerry, especially now we have baby Zephyr to enjoy. He arrived five months ago and my parents Chrissie and Michael gave us these photo albums embossed in Greek to celebrate. I don’t think the name’s bizarre – I wanted something with Greek origins as my mum’s Greek, and Zephyr’s the God of wind. I think the name suits him as he’s a real breath of fresh air.

2 QUEEN’S SPEECH

Every year I go to the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, and a couple of years ago I bought this print of the Queen’s head with the constellations in the silhouette. I’ve met Her Majesty at very close quarters on several occasions. In fact, I once gave a talk to her at a meeting of Sandringham Women’s Institute, of which she’s the president. She was very charming and complimentary to me afterwards… very like the Queen actually.

3 PARTY TIME

We celebrated Zephyr’s birth, and his grandmother Rose’s 90th birthday, with a christening party in Dublin, where I was born, and we were given this lovely David Linley children’s height chart. The party was great for Mum and Dad as the past few years have been tough. Mum had bowel cancer and Dad had prostate cancer, but Zephyr’s arrival was a positive focus for them, and now they’ve both got the all-clear we’re all revelling in the baby.

4 COMFORT BLANKET

When I travelled through Mongolia with Matt Baker for Children In Need in 2009 we went to the Gobi Mohair Factory where they make these blankets, and we both bought one for £100. I use mine a lot – it’s my snuggle blanket for watching TV on winter evenings. I persuaded Matt to buy one for his wife Nicola. She adores it, as does his son Luke, and they sit as a family underneath it on a bed watching TV. That got me a Brownie Point!

5 MEMORY STICK

I filmed the BBC3 food consumer series Kill It, Cook It, Eat It for three years, which examined our relationship with meat from field to fork. The theme was wild game for one series, and we stayed at an estate in the Scottish Highlands where Arthur, the head gamekeeper, makes walking sticks he carves himself using sheep horns for the handles. He gave me this one, but I don’t use it much as I’d hate to lose it up a mountain.

6 LAKES LEGEND

When I made the Wainwright Walks series in the Lake District last year – based on Alfred Wainwright’s guide books – the publishers gave me this special box set of them. I’ve also got my own set of dog-eared Wainwrights, which we used on the walks, but these are for indoor use only. I met his second wife Betty before she died and she thought he would have loved the series. I certainly felt his presence when we were filming.
