CORONATION STREET

ANOTHER WEATHERFIELD MARRIAGE MADE IN HELL

-

After what feels like months of build up, the wedding day of Kirsty and Tyrone finally arrives (right). But given that Kirsty has now sussed her fiance’s plan to get custody of Ruby and shack up with Fiz, it looks like being anything other than a quiet affair.

On Wednesday the ‘ happy couple’ come to blows as Kirsty flies into one of her rages and falls down the stairs. Seeing her chance for revenge, Kirsty tells the police that Tyrone pushed her and, rather than riding off into the sunset with Fiz, he ends up locked in a cell.

It’s gripping stuff with some splendid performances from all involved, with special credit to Natalie Gumede as Kirsty, who has nailed the character of the wild-eyed psycho with aplomb. So much so that you can forgive the fact that Corrie only used the ‘framing someone for pushing them down the stairs’ storyline last year with Becky and Tracy. It also makes up for the incredibly tedious Sophie and Jenna storyline currently running, which culminates in Jenna finally coming out of the closet to her parents and getting suspended from work for kissing Sophie. I’d have thought forever being in the pub knocking back the booze when you work in a hospital would be more cause for a disciplinary.

Considering the most exciting part of her day is coming downstairs for her tea it’s no wonder Faye is getting up to mischief online and arranging meetings with a man called Tim. It turns out that Tim is her dad and Faye is devastated when Anna says she can never see him again.

Elsewhere smooth-talker Lewis spends much of the week trying to convince Gail to move to Europe with him to run a hotel.

Hang on a minute, wasn’t that the exact same ploy he first used with Audrey? Not very original these con men, are they?
