Looper

(2012) 15

On BT Vision, Virgin Movies and Sky Box Office from Monday As with many films about time travel, if you think too hard about it, you will get a headache. But if you sit back and embrace the nonsense, you will be rewarded with a slick and excellently paced action thriller that is as refreshing as it is bamboozling. Bruce Willis is Joseph Simmons , a ‘looper’, or paid assassin, who must meet his maker at the hands of his younger self (Joseph GordonLevitt) after 30 years in the field (thankfully, the film does a better job of explaining it). Escaping judgment day, Joes young and old go on the run.

Dredd

(2012) 18

On BT Vision, Virgin Movies and Sky Box Office from Monday Like Tom Hardy in The Dark Knight Rises, the star of this film spends the duration with his face covered by a mask. Karl Urban plays the unwavering force of the law that is Judge Dredd in a film adaptation that fans of the 2000 AD comics applauded – unlike the 1995 outing, in which Sylvester Stallone removed his helmet (heaven forfend). Here, Dredd takes on a one-woman crime wave in Ma-Ma (Lena Headey), who runs the show from an impregnable tower block citadel. No need for a trial, as he’s judge, jury and executioner. Things get messy very quickly.

ParaNorman (2012) PG

On BT Vision, Virgin Movies and Sky Box Office from Monday From the studio behind the equally quirky and spooky animation Coraline, this follows a boy called Norman Babcock, who is teased for being a weird loner – but, while everyone thinks he’s a freak, the truth is somewhat different – Norman sees dead people, and they keep him pretty busy. Things start to get hairy when his recently deceased uncle comes to Norman with a warning: the angry undead will rise unless he performs a ritual. But all is not as malevolent as it seems… Sky Box Office Movies are available only to Sky subscribers, and can also be accessed online via Sky Go. Virgin Movies is available only to Virgin Media subscribers. BT Vision On Demand is available via a BT Vision set-top box.
