9PM, ITV Episode two of the new series begins with a parcel arriving from Matthew’s office, addressed to Lady Mary. Lord Grantham insists on opening it himself – and what he discovers is something of a bombshell: a letter clearly expressing Matthew’s wishes for the division of the estate at his death. Badly rattled, Lord G declares that, ‘Whatever Matthew’s intentions, it is not a will.’ Maybe not, but this is going to change things… Meanwhile, Molesley is at his wits’ end, and Bates dreams up a plan to help him; Lady Flintshire’s daughter, Lady Rose (Lily James, right), goes looking for fun in York – and finds trouble; and Mrs Hughes urges Carson to let an old wound heal.
