Orangutans: The Great Ape Escape

9PM, BBC2 This Natural World documentary follows the progress of an orangutan called Leonora, her baby son, and a group of their friends as they are returned to the wild. Up to now, they have been living on an island sanctuary in Borneo along with 600 other orphaned orangutans, all cared for by conservationist Lone Droscher Nielsen (right). Her aim now is to begin returning her charges to the wild – but will it work? Will they learn to look after themselves? It’s certainly a challenge, and some fare better than others… This charming and involving film includes possibly the cutest sight you will ever see – a wheelbarrow full of baby orangutans.
