DRAMA

Beck BBC iPLAYER After nearly a month without a Saturdaynight BBC4 Eurodrama, this likeable Swedish detective series arrived last week to fill the gap. In his first case, Martin Beck had to defend a friend who was accused of murder. Humans ALL 4 Catch up with series one of this clever Channel 4 drama, which imagines a parallel present where British homes are filled with helpful, humanlike robots – who discover a sense of self. Series two is due out later this year.

COMEDY

Friday Night Dinner ALL 4 Tamsin Greig and Paul Ritter play the heads of a dysfunctional London Jewish family in this popular Channel 4 comedy, which returned for a fourth series last Friday. In episode one, the dad (Ritter) accidentally invites a charmless man (Jason Watkins) over for dinner.

DOCUMENTARY

Fake Or Fortune? BBC iPLAYER Fiona Bruce and Philip Mould are back as the art detectives in a new run of this surprisingly exciting series. Is a painting of a man in a black cravat an early work by Lucian Freud? And why would the artist deny it if it is? Fiona and Philip are on the case… Full Steam Ahead BBC iPLAYER Archaeologists Peter Ginn and Alex Langlands join historian Ruth Goodman to reveal the story of Britain’s Victorian steam railways, and how they changed our country, our homes and our lives. It’s little wonder they had such an impact – the biggest engineering project Britain had ever seen involved 20,000 miles of track. Eden ALL 4 Twenty-three men and women are sent to start a new society from scratch in Channel 4’s new social experiment, which feels more than a tad reminiscent of the BBC reality series Castaway, from 2000. The series is filmed over the course of a year in the Scottish Highlands, as the lucky (or not so lucky) 23 build their own homes, raise their own livestock and the like.

ENTERTAINMENT

Celebrity First Dates ALL 4 Entertainer Bernie Clifton, Atomic Kitten’s Natasha Hamilton and Brad Simpson – the lead singer of The Vamps – were among the famous hopefuls who turned up last week.
