PICK OF THE DAY
Goodnight Sweetheart/ Young Hyacinth
9PM/9.30PM, BBC1 The first of tonight’s two classic comedy reboots is an update of the time-travel caper starring Nicholas Lyndhurst. Then, the, 1950s-set prequel to Keeping Up Appearances explores the humble origins of incorrigible snob Hyacinth Bucket. With no husband to henpeck, Hyacinth focuses on her three sisters and father (Mark Addy) – a part-time brush salesman and a drunk. Kerry Howard’s performance is reminiscent of Patricia Routledge, but, as a young woman, Hyacinth (right) is a smidgen less bullish in her efforts to be upwardly mobile.
Cars That Made Britain Great
8PM, CH5 This fun new series celebrating Britain’s motoring heritage features celebrity petrolheads, including Shane Lynch, Jodie Kidd and Julia Bradbury, recalling the cars they owned and the cars they fantasised about. This first episode starts in the fast lane, lifting the shiny bonnets of the Austin-Healey 3000 and the Lotus Esprit.
Would I Lie To You?
8.30PM, BBC1 Rob Brydon and team captains Lee Mack and David Mitchell are back for a new series of the comedy game show in which panellists attempt to call the bluff of celebrities who may or may not be telling porkies. This week’s guests are boxer David Haye, Bake Off’s Mel Giedroyc, actor Martin Kemp and comic Romesh Ranganathan.
Lady C And The Castle
9PM, ITV In 2013, colourful aristocrat Lady Colin Campbell bought Castle Goring in Sussex for a reported £700,000. Her stint in the I’m A Celebrity jungle was to help to pay for renovations so she could relaunch the house as a wedding and events venue. This one-off documentary follows the fraught final weeks of Lady C’s epic endeavour. SA
