9PM, CH4 In the first of a new series, Kevin McCloud (right) meets Jon and Noreen, a couple building a treehouse on, naturally, a rather grand scale. It’s a gravity-defying structure where the couple plan to live ‘in intimate contact with the rawness and energy of the natural world’. The strict conditions of the planning consent mean that the plot’s trees must remain untouched, and the couple are on a tight budget, but their magical floating home – perched at ‘squirrel level’ – is well worth the stress and back-breaking hard work.

8PM, BBC2 With a rich, ten-year archive to draw from, this new series promises eight ultimate guides to notable stretches of magnificent British coastline. Tonight, Tessa Dunlop and Neil Oliver are in Cornwall, where they travel from the River Tamar to Tintagel Castle, telling the stories that make the spectacular Cornish coast so fascinating and unique.

Penelope Keith’s Hidden Villages

8PM, CH4 Penelope is the perfect host of this genteel series, spending a third summer in search of more quintessentially British gems nestled in the countryside. She starts in the villages and valleys of the Cotswolds, an area now known as ‘Notting Hill with wellies’, where the rich and famous aspire to live.
