3PM, RADIO 4 Clare Balding joins two walkers as they set out to walk the Pilgrims’ Way, which leads to the shrine of Thomas Becket, and hears why they are making this journey of faith.

6.30PM, RADIO 4 Angus Deayton and Helen AtkinsonWo­od are among the original cast members of this 1980s comedy series, who’ve got together for this one-off special. Many an old joke has been dusted down; few have stood the test of time. Happily, the Bee Gees parody, Meaningles­s Songs (In Very High Voices), is still a piece of comedy gold.

7PM, RADIO 2 The Long Ryders first hit the road in 1981 with a line-up of multiinstr­umentalist­s who could play the mandolin, steel guitar, banjo, bugle and pretty much anything that came their way. They are credited as being the inventors of the music style now known as Americana. The Long Ryders dismounted in 1987, but got back in the saddle for Glastonbur­y in 2004, and toured Europe this spring. They join Bob for a studio session this evening.

8PM, RADIO 2 Tom Chaplin from Keane has had his troubles with drink and drug dependence, but he’s had some intensive therapy, and got his life back. His new solo album, The Wave, includes tracks that draw on these troubles, and he joins Jo tonight for a live session.

8PM, CLASSIC FM Today is the autumn equinox, when the hours of daylight and the hours of darkness are almost equal. The sun will slip lower in the sky, and the long winter nights will be upon us. This programme celebrates the coming season of golden leaves, mists and mellowness, with music from Vivaldi, Grieg and others.
