PICK OF THE DAY
Stand Up To Cancer
7PM, CH4
Though half of us will be diagnosed with cancer at some point in our lives, more and more of us are surviving, thanks to constantly evolving treatments. But behind the ground-breaking treatments lies painstaking research – and research requires funding. In this star-studded live telethon, Davina McCall, Jose Mourinho, Olivia Colman, David Tennant, Meat Loaf, Britney Spears, Stephen Mangan and John Bishop are among the famous faces queuing up to encourage us to donate to Cancer Research UK – a cause that none of us can afford to ignore.
Would I Lie To You?
8.30PM, BBC1
Among the guests spinning a yarn (or not) with Rob Brydon, David Mitchell and Lee Mack this week, Adam Woodyatt claims to practise an unusual form of meditation with a root vegetable, while Jason Watkins claims to have a gravity-defying weekly exercise routine. And did Lee once read a whole book with binoculars?
Gardeners’ World
8.30PM, BBC2
And so, this year’s series draws to a close, with Weekend’s Monty Don offering tips on helping vulnerable plants to survive the winter, while also looking forward to spring by planting bulbs in the cutting garden. Plus, Carol Klein visits a Worcestershire garden that’s designed to reach its glorious peak at the height of autumn.
QI
10PM, BBC2
Following the departure of original chairman Stephen Fry – who decided to call it a day in 2015, after 13 series – new host Sandi Toksvig settles into the hot seat for the first time for a brand-new run of the enormously entertaining
(and often illuminating) panel game. She’s joined by regular Alan Davies, plus guests including Phill Jupitus. SH
