MATTHEW JUKES’ WINE LIST
Six elite but affordable bottles – and that’s exactly how I like it
1 2016 Two Rivers of Marlborough, Convergence Sauvignon Blanc, New Zealand £14.50, reduced to £12.95 each by the case, leaand sandeman.co.uk
An exceptionally aromatic sauvignon blanc made from fruit from five vineyards which layers the tropical and citrus notes. 2
2016 La
Viste, Picpoul de Pinet, Coteaux du Languedoc, France £8.95, Jeroboams, 020 7730 8108
I wonder if you have ever tasted elite level picpoul? Most versions are jolly enough, but this one is sensational, with silky-smooth fruit and an astonishingly long finish. A total bargain. 3
2015 Château de Fayolle, Rouge Bergerac, France £9.95, fromvineyards direct.com
If you nip to Bergerac you can find Bordeauxrecipe wines like this, with the same swagger for a much friendlier price tag. Made from the two cabernets and merlot, this is a cracking, hearty red wine.

NV Barbadillo, Pedro Ximénez, Jerez, Spain £13.63, amazon.co.uk Pound for pound this sweetie is one of the hero wines on the planet. With caramel/ toffee notes as opposed to black treacle/ molasses flavours, this is a heavenly sweet sherry and it goes with all things sticky. 5
2013 Wiston Estate, Cuvée Brut, South Downs, England £32.95, wistonestate.com
The latest release from Wiston is my favourite to date. Not only is the packaging some of the smartest in the country, the flavour matches this elegance, too. Ditch the champers and dive in here this week!
