IN HIS OWN WORDS: Lee Mack

-

He’s famous for his quick-fire wit, but Lee Mack gets (somewhat) serious in Who Do You Think You Are? (9pm, BBC1). Here’s what he’s had to say about his life and career… On his first kiss, playing spin the bottle at school:

‘I got matched up with this girl, and as I pulled away, she shouted, “He bit me!” I got a bit confused with the whole process.’

On his early dreams of a career in comedy:

‘My only ambition was to get to 50 [which he’ll achieve next month], and not regret not having had a crack at being a comic. That was all I wanted, not to be successful or even professional about it.’

On being kept awake by the pressure of writing sitcom

Not Going Out (Thursday, 10pm, Dave) – which will be back for a tenth series:

‘It takes over my life when I’m writing it. I look forward to the day when I worry about something else at night, like being killed in my bed by a lunatic.’

On his longtime friend and original Not Going Out co-star, Tim Vine:

‘In the pilot episode, Tim’s got stubble and a skinhead. I said to him, “Tim, I need you to be a bit tough, because you’re going out with Catherine Tate.”’

On his science-based panel show, Duck Quacks Don’t Echo (Thursday, 8pm, Sky One):

‘I’ve learnt that it’s not safe to glue yourself upside down from a ceiling, but custard can dance. I’m not sure how much more educated I am now, but I’ve certainly got a lot more trivia to talk about at dinner parties.’
