A post-apocalyptic action drama of the kind that suits hulking Arnold Schwarzenegger and his fans down to the ground – lots of violence, lots of dead bodies, very little talking. Arnie is the disgraced police pilot forced to take part in a bizarre, Hunger Games-style reality show.
The Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy
(2005) PG 9PM, SKY ONE
Based on Douglas Adams’s cult sci-fi series, this adaptation does a decent job of bringing to life the writer’s off-kilter vision. Martin Freeman is Arthur Dent (above), last survivor of the human race, who has to make new alien friends – fast.

Full Metal Jacket (1987) 15

Perfectionist Stanley Kubrick took longer and longer to make movies in the latter years of his career, but it resulted in epics such as this waris-hell story. Animal Mother (Adam Baldwin, above) is among the Marines in Vietnam.
