First broadcast on Radio 4 Extra in 2011, this lovely interview features the television legend June Whitfield talking to Enyd Williams, who directed June as Miss Marple in the radio adaptation of The Murder At The Vicarage (which you can hear on Thursday on Radio 4 Extra at 6am, 1pm and 8pm). Here, June picks her favourite performanc­es, including her big break on radio – joining the team of Take It From Here in 1953.

Isaac Newton – Master Of The Mint

David Ashton, the creator of the Victorian detective series McLevy, returns with a new hero in the unlikely guise of the 17th-century scientific genius Isaac Newton. William Gaminara (of Silent Witness fame) is Newton, who, in his new post at the Royal Mint in the Tower of London, is soon on the trail of a counterfei­ting gang.

BBC Proms 2018

7.30PM, RADIO 3

In the centenary year of the 1918 armistice, the World Orchestra for Peace, conducted by Simon Halsey and Donald Runnicles, returns to the BBC Proms with one of classical music’s most powerful statements of brotherhoo­d: Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony. Also on the programme is the world premiere of Eriks Esenvalds’s First World War-themed Shadow, while Benjamin Britten’s Sinfonia da Requiem adds its own emotive warning against war.

8PM, RADIO 4

Matthew Sweet asks if learning can or should be enjoyable as he trawls through the archive to look at the links between education and fun. Highlights include Sesame Street and a 1970s adult education series called On The Move, with a young Bob Hoskins playing a removal man who has trouble reading.
