The US author Audrey Niffenegge­r had a huge worldwide success with her first novel, The Time Traveler’s Wife – it sold eight million copies, and was made into a film in 2009, starring Eric Bana and Rachel McAdams. This morning, she reveals her eclectic music choices to Michael Berkeley, which range from 12th-century music by Hildegard of Bingen to Philip Glass, Radiohead and Pauline Oliveros.

Sean Connery and Michael Caine starred in John Huston’s classic 1975 film adaptation of Rudyard Kipling’s chilling novella, set in the Hindu Kush mountains. Now, as part of Radio 4’s To The Ends Of The Earth series of classic tales of adventure and peril, it’s the turn of Richard Ridings and Samuel James to play the con men Dan and Peachey, who have an audacious plan to conquer a remote region of what is now Afghanista­n.

The BBC National Orchestra of Wales and its principal conductor, Thomas Sondergard, are joined by a starry line-up of soloists, plus no fewer than five choirs – the Southend Boys’ Choir, the Southend Girls’ Choir, the BBC National Chorus of Wales, the BBC Symphony

Chorus and the London Symphony Chorus – to perform Mahler’s mighty Eighth Symphony in Prom 11, live from the Royal Albert Hall.
