What we were watching
Do you remember these shows that were on TV this week ten, 20, 30 and 40 years ago?
1978
Hollywood veteran Robert Stack (right) played the head of an elite LA police squad in US series Most Wanted on BBC1. The show was tinged with sadness as co-star Shelly Novack died aged just 34 shortly before it was shown in the UK.
1988
ITV’s hi-tech spy thriller Wipe Out failed to catch on and was axed after just five episodes. The series marked the TV debut of Fiona
Allen (right), playing the mysterious Eveline. She went on to appear in sketch show Smack The Pony.
1998
After two series, the BBC called time on drama The Broker’s Man, in which Kevin Whately (right) played a fraud investigator. Jimmy Griffin, a more hard-edged character than usual for the well-liked Inspector Morse actor, looked into dodgy insurance claims.
2008
Keeley Hawes (right) admitted Jen, her character in BBC1 comedy drama Mutual Friends, was beyond the pale. ‘She sleeps with her husband’s best pal Carl, then tells her husband about it at Carl’s funeral – he’s killed himself because of guilt about the affair,’ Keeley said.
