CATCH-UP TV DRAMA
Trust BBC iPLAYER ★★★★
This starry, ten-part US drama relates the true-life tale of the 1973 kidnapping of John Paul Getty III, whose incredibly rich grandfather (a brilliantly arch Donald Sutherland) refuses to pay the ransom.
Black Earth Rising BBC iPLAYER ★★★★
Hugo Blick (The Shadow Line) is behind this strong eight-part thriller, which stars the excellent Harriet Walter as a human rights lawyer whose daughter (Michaela Coel) survived the Rwandan genocide as a child.
Strangers ITV HUB ★★★★
A man’s world is turned upside down when his wife dies in Hong Kong, and he starts to learn things about her he never knew. John Simm is the star of ITV’s ambitious new eightpart thriller, which delivers a heart-stopping start that’s not for the easily shocked.
COMEDY
The Luke McQueen Pilots BBC iPLAYER ★★★
The comedian Luke McQueen makes a royal idiot of himself in these spoof comedy pilots. His cringe-inducing (but quite amusing) adventures include a mock travelogue to Amsterdam with his father, and a particularly amusing ‘report’ about the rise of vampires.
DOCUMENTARY
Battle Of Britain: Model Squadron ALL 4 ★★★
Model aircraft enthusiasts re-create the Battle of Britain for this light-hearted three-parter. There’s commentary from historian James Holland as the two teams from Britain and Germany bring the battle back to life, using planes that can actually shoot each other down.
Princess Margaret: The Rebel Royal BBC iPLAYER ★★★★
A fabulous selection of archive footage adorns this two-part profile of the Queen’s younger sister, which explores how her life and loves mirrored the social and sexual revolutions that transformed Britain during the 20th century. Contributors include Lady Anne Glenconner, a childhood friend and later lady-in-waiting.
ENTERTAINMENT
Celebrity Island With Bear Grylls ALL 4 ★★★★
Martin Kemp, James Cracknell and Roxanne Pallett – who recently exited Celebrity Big Brother under grim circumstances – are some of those fending for themselves in a new series.
LAST CHANCE
A Year In The New Forest ALL 4 ★★★★
Summer has arrived in the last in this delightful series, which has served to remind us just how much natural beauty there is to enjoy right here in the UK. Until Monday.
