Living World

6.35AM, RADIO 4 Caddisflies live in fresh water at the larval stage, then take to the land and air as adults. In their aquatic stage, they construct protective cases from sand, silt and vegetation, and these cases form underwater galleries. The larvae then maintain the galleries and surrounding areas to encourage food supplies. In this archive programme, Lionel Kelleway visits Lake Windermere to see the work of these tiny, underwater architects.

Spike Lee’s Music Playlist

1PM, BBC 6 MUSIC The film director Spike Lee presents a programme of his favourite music. It’s a very listenable and eclectic mix that includes music from Gershwin, as well as tracks from Marvin Gaye and the British singer-songwriter Sampha. Hashtag Pray

1.30PM, RADIO 4 More than half the people in the UK say in surveys that they have no religion, yet many of those still believe in prayer. Many also believe in angels, ghosts and messages from beyond the grave. Jane

Little investigates this seemingly contradictory state of affairs.

The Golden Bowl

3PM, RADIO 4 A man and a woman who are in love – but shouldn’t be – enter a shop, looking for a present. The shopkeeper offers them a bowl that is made of crystal and covered, by some ancient process, in gold. The man refuses to buy the piece as he thinks it is flawed – but this is not the last that either of them will hear of the golden bowl. John Lynch plays the author in this first of a three-part adaptation of Henry James’s novel of marriage and adultery. James’s overwrought prose has been hacked away, exposing a plot of fierce intensity.

Moira Stuart

11PM, RADIO 2 Moira returns to this Sunday-night slot with a selection of music on the theme of ‘love is here to stay’. She includes tracks from Billie Holiday and Frank Sinatra, plus Tony Bennett duetting with Diana Krall.
