The Paralympian Karen Darke rides along the 2,000-mile length of Australia’s Murray River on a hand-cycle. She starts in the Snowy Mountains, and travels through drought-stricken land to the sea. Gloomsbury

11.30AM, RADIO 4

The sitcom that revolves around a spoof version of the Bloomsbury Set returns for a new series. In this opening episode, Vera SackclothVest (Miriam Margolyes) is sharing some cold toast with her husband, Henry Mickleton (Jonathan Coy), in their draughty castle of Sizzlinghurst. Literary jokes abound as that creaky old sitcom standby – the surprise birthday party – lumbers into action.

Composer Of The Week

All this week, Donald Macleod has been looking at the life and music of the composer Hubert Parry. This final programme deals with Parry’s life during the First World War. It was a bitter time for the composer, made worse by seeing so many of his bright music students going off to fight, never to return. Yet, during this terrible time, Parry composed his most-loved work – Jerusalem.
