PICK OF THE DAY
The Lakes With Paul
Rose
8.30PM, BBC2
‘Wild, wonderful and truly magnificent,’ the Lake District has been home (and, he says, ‘playground’) to Paul Rose for the past 20 years. In this picturesque four-part series, the intrepid presenter goes on some of his favourite hikes, starting with Windermere, the biggest lake in England, and the beating heart of the area’s booming tourism industry. Fulfilling a long-held dream, he (briefly) takes the helm of a pleasure cruiser called the Teal, dives headlong into the world of long-distance swimming, and follows the pack on a hound trailing expedition.
Gardeners’ World
9PM, BBC2
With summer now a memory, Monty Don closes the series with tips on protecting tender plants over winter. Plus, Carol Klein wallows in autumn colour at Gloucestershire’s Hidcote Manor, Nick Bailey has tree suggestions for small spaces, and Adam Frost meets a young gardening enthusiast who also has a passion for inventing.
Walking Britain’s Lost Railways
9PM, CH5 Beginning on the beach at Burnham-on-Sea, Rob Bell’s fifth trek takes him along the Somerset & Dorset line that once connected
Bath and Bournemouth, until it fell victim to the so-called Beeching Axe in 1966. En route, he finds out why this lost line ended up bankrupting the investors who had funded it.
Would I Lie To You?
9.30PM, BBC1
This week, David Mitchell is joined by Rylan Clark-Neal and Mary Portas, while Lee Mack is flanked by Sara Pascoe and Paul Sinha. So, did Sara buy a miniature chest of drawers by mistake? Was Rylan really mugged by a fox in an Essex cul-de-sac? And does Mary sing Christmas carols to cows? Rob Brydon keeps order. SH
