What we were watching
Do you remember these shows that were on TV this week ten, 20, 30 and 40 years ago?
David ‘Diddy’ Hamilton (pictured) was at
The Empire Ballroom in Leicester Square, London, to host live coverage of The World Disco Dancing Championships on ITV. Japan’s Tadaaki Dan won.
Aveline’s wedding to vicar Oswald in BBC1 sitcom Bread attracted the show’s best audience of 21 million. Oswald was played by
Giles Watling, who has been Conservative MP for Clacton, Essex, since 2017.
Ian Lygo made his final appearance on Channel 5 quiz show 100% after 75 consecutive victories. The show’s producers decided it was time he let someone else have a chance. Lygo won £100 per programme.
Carol Vorderman left Channel 4’s Countdown, having been part of the show since it began in 1982. Dictionary Corner’s Gyles Brandreth presented her with flowers and Carol shed tears as the credits rolled.
