DID YOU KNOW? Jamie Dornan

-

Jamie, 36, is currently playing the roguish Liam Ward in Death And Nightingales (9pm, BBC2); here are some things you might not know about the Northern Irish actor…

Jamie was born on May 1, 1982 in Holywood, County Down, in Northern Ireland. He spent his childhood in the suburbs of Belfast.

In his early days, he was an aspiring singer, and performed in the folk band Sons Of Jim, who disbanded in 2008. The band had some success, and once supported the Scottish singer-songwriter KT Tunstall on her tour.

He got his big break in 2001 when he took part in the Channel 4 reality show Model Behaviour. Although he didn’t win, he was signed by Select Model Management, and embarked on a hugely successful modelling career. In 2006, GQ magazine dubbed him the ‘male Kate Moss’. In his first big-screen acting role, he played Count Axel Fersen in the 2006 Sofia Coppola film Marie Antoinette. He is now far betterknown as kinky businessman Christian Grey in the Fifty Shades Of Grey trilogy of movies. Jamie is no stranger to tragedy: his mother died of cancer when he was 16, and a year later, four of his close friends were killed in a car crash. He is a huge rugby fan, and claims to have never missed an Ireland international in his life. He lives in the Cotswolds with actor/musician wife Amelia Warner (left). They have two daughters, with another child on the way.
