Dot Cotton was the only person in Walford ever to see any good in her son Nasty Nick. She was thrilled when he arrived home before Christmas with his daughter Dotty, but it turned out he was after money and Dot (pictured) ended up buying the girl from Nick.

15 YEARS AGO – EMMERDALE

Marlon Dingle made the agonising decision to switch off his wife Tricia’s lifesupport machine – she’d been pronounced brain-dead having lain in a coma (pictured) for a week since being crushed by rubble when The Woolpack was hit by lightning in a storm.

20 YEARS AGO – CORRIE

The show said goodbye to a legend with the funeral of Alf Roberts, who’d first appeared 38 years earlier. The ex-mayor of Weatherfield had suffered a fatal stroke (pictured) at a birthday party for Nick Tilsley, grandson of Alf’s wife Audrey (above right).
