NETFLIX

NEW! Dating Around (Season 1) The first of Netflix’s two Valentine’s Day offerings follows one singleton on five blind dates in each episode. From Thursday. NEW! Dirty John (Season 1) Connie Britton and Eric Bana star in Netflix’s compelling drama about online dating gone very wrong. Based on a true story and a podcast of the same name. From Thursday.

MOVIE The Breaker Upperers (2018)

18 New Zealand romcom about an agency that uncouples happy couples. It starts out waspish, dark-minded and wickedly funny, then softens. From Friday. NEW! The Umbrella Academy (Season 1)

Cool is the word for Netflix’s show about a messed-up family of superheroes, raised from babies by an emotionally distant tyrant. The story turns on them reuniting and fighting as adults, after his death – there’s a secondary plot about the apocalypse in there, too, but it’s less interesting. Robert Sheehan (above), Ellen Page and Tom Hopper star in a stylish show – with a killer soundtrack – that takes an episode to show its full colours. From Friday.

AMAZON PRIME

NEW! The Grand Tour (Season 3,

Episode 6) Brace yourselves: the trio are in China, and they’ve got some advice for the locals. Don’t go buying fancy sports cars, say Clarkson, Hammond and May. Just pop over to Europe and pick up a second-hand executive motor – they have a Mercedes and a BMW with them to prove the point. A new episode arrives every Friday. NEW! Lost

(All six seasons) Ah, Lost. This great island mystery began with a bang, rambled in the middle, then rallied for a finale that worked more on the heart than the head. If you’ve never seen it before, it’s quite a ride, but do skip the middle.

Life’s too short. From Monday. NEW! Lorena (All four parts)

It’s been more than 25 years since Lorena Bobbitt took a knife to her husband’s privates, and John and Lorena both talk about that day in this sprawling reflection on the case, several contributors to which occasionally seem to be repressing giggles. From Friday.

MOVIE Dear John (2010) 12

Laid-back romance from whimsical director Lasse Hallstrom (A Dog’s Purpose). Channing Tatum plays a soldier who falls in love, then has to go off to war. From Friday.

SKY ON DEMAND/ NOW TV

DRAMA Das Boot (All eight parts)

Engaging sequel to Wolfgang Petersen’s original 1981 submarine thriller (which is on Netflix). It follows a young crew setting sail in 1942 as the tide of war starts to turn against the U-boats. There’s a poignancy in that premise, and it’s nicely played here. DRAMA Tin Star (Seasons 1-2) Despite the plot taking some pretty wild turns, the second season of Sky’s revenge thriller has held up pretty well, and feels even more like a western than the first. At the start, it’s anyone’s guess who out of Jim (Tim Roth) and his family will survive the first episode. LAST CHANCE Discovering: David Bowie

As a neat companion to BBC2 and BBC4’s Saturday-night specials on Bowie, music critics and DJs discuss his life and songs for Sky Arts. Until Thursday. NEW! Keeping Up With The Kardashians (Seasons 1-15) Recently added slab of the US reality TV warhorse, in which feuds rise out of nothing.

BEST OF THE REST

NEW! The Nine To Five With Stacey Dooley

(iPlayer) As part of a raft of new series (such as Dr Chris And Dr Xand Investigate and Teen Taxi) aimed at young people, Ms Dooley shepherds teenagers into work experience, and it’s a steep learning curve for everyone. From tomorrow, 10am. NEW! Harlots (Starzplay via

Amazon Prime) Season two of this bawdy drama about Georgian prostitutes has had an injection of pace. Liv Tyler (left) joins a strong cast that includes Lesley Manville. From Thursday. PAY MOVIES Bad Times At The El Royale (2018) 15 (BT TV Store, Sky Store, Virgin) Seven strangers arrive at a mysterious hotel in a chatty, Tarantino-style thriller set in the 1960s. Jeff Bridges and Mad Men’s Jon Hamm play two of the guests. A Star Is Born (2018) 15 (BT TV Store,

Virgin) Bradley Cooper’s bold choice of directorial debut is a 21st-century remake of the beloved musical drama. It pays off, with Cooper excelling as a boozy rocker aiding the rise of a young singer (a well-cast Lady Gaga). Both from Monday.
