DID YOU KNOW? Hermione Norris

-

With Hermione – who turns 52 tomorrow – back playing Karen Marsden in Cold Feet (9pm, ITV), we look at some things you might not know about the popular actress…

Hermione was born on February 12, 1967 in Paddington, London, the second of four children. Her parents – Michael, a businessman, and Helen, a nurse – divorced when she was five.

Aged 11, she won a scholarship to the Elmhurst School for Dance, and at 19, she enrolled at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. In 1989, she made her professional stage debut in a production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

After being out of work for several months in 1996, she considered quitting acting to follow a career as a solicitor. However, she soon got the part of Karen in Cold Feet, which she first played until 2003.

She has suffered with depression throughout her life, and although she has been well since her last bout during her late 30s, she is fully aware that it will return at some point. ‘I accept that it is a part of who I am, and I have a rule book for what I know I need to do to take care of myself,’ she revealed.

From 2006 to 2009, she starred as Ros Myers in the BBC1 spy drama Spooks. The role won her the award for Best Actress at the inaugural

2008 ITV3 Crime Thriller Awards.

Her husband is the TV writer and producer Simon Wheeler, whom she married in 2002. They have two children, son Wilf and daughter Hero.
