THE MASKED SINGER/ THE VOICE UK
7PM/8.30PM, ITV ★★★★ ITV provides the soundtrack to Saturday night with the launch of a brand-new singing contest – and the return of The Voice. The Masked Singer is a bit of a curiosity, a US show that makes its debut over here. Viewers at home are invited to guess the identities of heavily disguised celebrities in spectacular costumes, guided by a panel that includes Rita Ora (right) and Davina Mccall. The Voice is back at 8.30pm with a new coach, US singer Meghan Trainor, sitting in a spinning chair beside Olly Murs, Tom Jones and will.i.am.
THE GREATEST DANCER
7PM, BBC1 ★★★★
Back for a new series comes the lively contest in which dancers must impress 75 per cent of the audience to get through the audition stage. Oti Mabuse, Matthew Morrison (sporting a handsome moustache), Cheryl and new boy Todrick Hall – who’s worked with Beyonce and Rupaul– are the captains on the lookout for talent.
TONY ROBINSON’S HISTORY OF BRITAIN
8PM, CH5 ★★★★
Tony champions the Baldricks of history in this entertaining series, looking at the lives of ordinary people. Starting 500 years ago in Tudor times, Tony gets a taste of some of the least sanitary and celebrated of professions, from potwasher and executioner to ‘knacker’ and ‘alewife’.
