Dig out your parasols, because the sun-soaked crime drama is back for a ninth series. This first episode opens on New Year’s Eve in the Caribbean, but there’s not much time to celebrate when DI Jack Mooney (Ardal O’hanlon, right, in his final series) is called after the wife of airline boss Aaron is stabbed. The devil-masked murderer leaves a cryptic note, and the mystery deepens when family friend Charles (guest star Adrian Edmondson) finds Aaron’s brother being attacked by the same culprit. Can Jack and his team work out what’s going on before more are hurt?

This week, the cooks are challenged to make their ultimate meringue desserts, each packed full of interesting flavours. Next, they have to create dishes based around cauliflower, with some inspiring results. The chefs facing the eliminator round need to be very precise to avoid being the one who’s sent home.

BABY CHIMP RESCUE

8PM, BBC2 ★★★★ Fostering youngsters in need is an admirable role, but Jimmy and Jenny Desmond have done so quite unconventionally – taking in no fewer than 21 little chimpanzees. In this delightful new series, cameras follow the goings-on at their Liberian rescue home as they prepare the orphans for life in the wild – and it’s hilariously adorable.

WELCOME TO HMP BELMARSH WITH ROSS KEMP

9PM, ITV ★★★★ The former Eastenders hardman is again delving deep into the dangerous parts of society – this time, in one of our most notorious prisons. With terrorists, serial killers and common criminals living side by side, Ross finds out how guards and prisoners alike cope on the inside. TESSA JONES
