PICK OF THE DAY
THE LIFE & TIMES OF CAPTAIN SIR TOM
9.15PM, ITV ★★★★★ Earlier this year, Captain Tom Moore (right) burst into the public consciousness with his fundraiser for the NHS. He raised an astonishing £30m by doing 100 laps of his garden before his 100th birthday, and he was recently knighted by the Queen for his efforts. This wonderful one-off looks at his fascinating life, from frontline battles in the Second World War and his long marriage to Pamela, who died in 2006, to his civilian career and the world events that have happened in between. This is one show you really don’t want to miss.
TO CATCH A SEX OFFENDER: CRIME & PUNISHMENT
9PM, CH4 ★★★★
This insightful series, which follows prosecutors and police, is back. It begins with a look at sex offences – there are more reports of rape than ever, but convictions are at a record low. Following cases in Hampshire, we see the challenges faced by the CPS, and learn why victims may not always get justice.
DIANA: QUEEN OF HEARTS?
9PM, CH5 ★★★★
When Princess Diana shook hands with an AIDS patient in 1987, the shock was felt around the world. But that defiant act was typical of her approach to public duties. This special asks if Diana’s devotion to helping the sick and needy was purely compassionate, or if it was a form of rebellion against the Establishment.
MANDY
9.30PM, BBC2 ★★★ Motherland’s Diane Morgan has another hit on her hands – she is the writer, director and lead of this new comedy series. Mandy (Diane) wants to breed dogs, among other fanciful dreams, but life isn’t plain sailing for her. Michael Spicer and Maxine Peake also star in the opening double bill. TESSA JONES
