THE APPRENTICE BEST BITS

9PM, BBC1 ★★★★ Roll up, roll up… there are more highlights from the

UK’S most famous boardroom. You’ll recognise some of the faces here as we delve into the celebrity specials. First up, in 2007, Karren Brady (right) led the girls to victory. Then, in 2008, we had Kirstie Allsopp causing waves with Ann Summers CEO Jacqueline Gold, while in 2009, Jonathan Ross, Jack Dee and co didn’t quite make the grade. Then, in 2019, with Karren a trusted adviser to Lord Sugar, project manager and presenter Rylan Clark-neal lost his temper after losing a cabaret task.

THE GRAND PARTY HOTEL

8PM, BBC1 ★★★

All 125 rooms of the Shankly are booked for this weekend, but it’s not plain sailing – one hot tub won’t fill up, while another won’t empty! Staying there are Kaylea and Mark, who are marrying after Kaylea’s terminal cancer diagnosis. The staff take great care to make things beautiful, and it’s very emotional to witness it all.

THE TRUTH ABOUT YOUR SANDWICH

★★★ If you’ve ever wondered if your lunch is lying to you, then it’s time to find out. Helen Skelton investigates what’s really inside store-bought sarnies, and reveals they’re not always as nutritious as the label says. She founds horrifying sights at manufacturing plants, and – you guessed it – cuts to food inspections have had an effect.

FIRST DATES

10PM, CH4 ★★★★

A double date for two sisters who have struggled to find love feels like a great idea… until the men appear to have more chemistry with each other. On a funnier note, Aryeh is worried his unique, loud personality will be too much for his date, Jack, who valiantly tries his hardest not to get embarrassed. TESSA JONES

THE CHOICE: TRUMP VS BIDEN

7.30PM, PBS AMERICA ★★★ Every US Presidential election feels dramatic, but the 2020 contest between Donald Trump (left) and Joe Biden – fuelled by racial justice protests, the Covid crisis and Trump’s inability to keep his mouth shut – is more so than most. This new profile digs into what motivates both men.

ADOLF HITLER’S WAR

8PM, YESTERDAY ★★★★ ‘Artillery is a god of modern war,’ remarked Stalin (left), and the last in this rousing series tracks his Red Army as they use it to smash the Nazis. Ultimately, 57,000 captured Germans were paraded through Moscow; afterward, the streets were scrubbed with disinfectant.

ED STAFFORD: FIRST MAN OUT

9PM, DISCOVERY ★★★★

Ky Furneaux (left) has spent 16 years in Hollywood as a stuntwoman, and says she’s used to being underestimated. She thinks Ed might make the same mistake here as the pair embark on a survival challenge in China’s snowy Four Sisters range, where rescue is up to a day away.

I HATE SUZIE

9PM, SKY ATLANTIC ★★★★★

In the final episode, Suzie (Billie Piper, left) is looking for something or someone to make everything better. Is that even possible, though? Lucy Prebble’s drama is that rare sort of show that doesn’t seem to have an eye on a second series, and has the grace to end things very finely here.

COMEDY LEGENDS

9PM, SKY ARTS ★★★★

Barry Cryer has a rich subject for the first of a new run of his insightful profiles – Charlie Chaplin (left), who rose from poverty to become a true comedy legend. At 10pm, look out for a new edition of culture show Sky Arts Late as the now freely available channel continues its impressive expansion.

MAGNUM P.I.

9PM, PICK ★★★ The private eye and Higgins (Perdita Weeks, left) are stranded at sea in the penultimate episode of this slick reboot of the Hawaii-set drama. One of them is bleeding, too, which is not what you want in the open ocean – but, on the plus side, the peril of the situation seems tailor-made to push this ‘will they, won’t they’ pair together. THE ESSAY: THINKING BLACK

10.45PM, RADIO 3 HHHH Sandra Laing was born in apartheid South Africa to a white family, but as she got older, her skin grew darker. The authorities threatened to take her from her home in a whites-only area while she was still a child. One awful day, Sandra was expelled from her all-white school and taken home under a police escort; after that, she was shunned by her community, and her parents fought to have her legally classified as white. In his thoughtful, week-long exploration of race and prejudice, Colin Grant tells Sandra’s strange story. SJ
