This sure-footed political thriller from David Hare (whose Collateral starts at 10pm on BBC4) stars Hugh Laurie as the confident but evidently slippery Conservative minister Peter Laurence (right). Having triumphed in a High Court libel case after journalist Charmian Pepper mysteriously changed her testimony, Laurence is expecting a Cabinet promotion from the Prime Minister (a regal Helen Mccrory). But he’s a man with a past, and Pepper, sacked by her paper, isn’t going to give up without a fight. A quality four-part drama that promises secrets, lies and plenty of spin.

The British countryside isn’t all about a slower pace of life – there are also thrills and spills to be found, as Joe Crowley discovers. He joins Olympic gold-winning cyclist Joanna Rowsell Shand for a zigzag ride down Box Hill in Surrey. There is also a look through the Countryfile archives for more adrenaline-fuelled pursuits.
