On this game show celebrities are asked to perform strange tasks, often against the clock, such as making cocktails silently or transferring water between barrels. I give my decisions and create the impression that I’m authoritative and firmly in control, but it’s an act. In real life I’m shambolic!

People do make fools of themselves – in the last series David Baddiel was doing so badly that he came up to me three times off set to say, ‘I am really intelligent, you know.’ But we don’t deliberately set out to humiliate anybody.

We film a lot of the tasks in a former groundskeepers’ cottage inside a golf course in west London, and this series the production team stayed in the three-bedroom property. We were fortunate that most tasks were finished before Covid struck. 4 5

Over the years a couple of competitive people have treated it as more than just a game. I once passed a note to my co-host Alex Horne, which read, ‘That person’s really cross with me!’ Having said that, I get cross with people who I don’t think can be bothered – such as the actress Daisy May Cooper in this series, who was asked to bring in items from home related to specific tasks and it seemed as though she grabbed the first thing from her kitchen. I was fuming, but l liked it. It gave me something to sharpen my teeth on!

There are studio segments, where the celebrities discuss the tasks they’ve done and are awarded points. We socially distanced at Pinewood Studios for five days without the usual audience, although we did think about having them outside, like they do on Henman Hill at Wimbledon!
