GEORGE CLARKE’S AMAZING SPACES: WINTER WORLD TOUR

8PM, CH4 ★★★★

It’s the most wonderful time of year for the genial architect to set out on a tour of some fabulous winter wonderlands. In this special episode, George (right) and his trusty sidekick, Will Hardie, visit Norway, Finland, the Alps and Canada to check out some amazing winter designs, from ice hotels to stunning modern homes. Along the way, they build an igloo, race toboggans, feed reindeer and dodge a bear that has taken a particular liking to the crafty duo.

INSIDE THE STEAM TRAIN MUSEUM AT CHRISTMAS

7PM, CH5 ★★★

Things aren’t going smoothly for staff member Phil as the cameras return to Bressingham Steam Museum for a seasonal special. He’s struggling to drive a vintage fire engine covered in festive lights to the local market town’s Christmas event. Will the party be thrown off the rails?

DAD’S ARMY (2016) PG

8PM, ITV3 ★★★ Walmington-on-sea’s Home Guard face an enemy in their midst in this revisit to the hugely popular BBC sitcom. Great casting – Toby Jones as Mainwaring, Bill Nighy as Wilson – makes it a decent, affectionate tribute, even if the creaky charm has been buffed away by modern techniques.

WALKING BRITAIN’S LOST RAILWAYS

★★★ In the final episode of this short series, Rob Bell traces the history of a high-speed railway that once tore its way through the East Midlands. The Great Central Railway was the final great line of the Victorian era, the last main line to be built until the Channel Tunnel Rail Link more than a century later.

JANE MCDONALD: CHRISTMAS CRUISING

9PM, CH5 ★★★

In this Christmas cracker, we revisit two of the Wakefield warbler’s festive cruises

– with previously unseen footage. It starts aboard the SS Antoinette as Jane travels up the Rhine from Germany to France; then, it’s on to the spectacular coast of Norway on board the Coastal Express. MM

THE GOOD LIFE: WHEN I’M 65

4.20PM, DRAMA ★★★

The last-ever episode with the Goods (Felicity Kendal and Richard Briers, left) from 1978, which was recorded in the presence of the Queen and Prince Philip. There’s another festive special at 5.20pm, with Victoria Wood’s Midlife Christmas right after at 6pm.

FREDDIE MERCURY: THE GREAT PRETENDER

9PM, SKY ARTS ★★★★

Emmy Award-winning documentary about Freddie Mercury’s (left) public and private personae, directed by Rhys Thomas. One of the many highlights is when Michael Jackson’s pet llama wanders into the studio where he and Freddie are working.

MICKY FLANAGAN: PEEPING BEHIND THE CURTAIN

9PM, SKY ONE ★★★

A raw new look at the life of comic Micky Flanagan (left), filmed during his An’ Another Fing tour. That became the biggest comedy tour of 2017, selling 600,000 tickets, and this is also a reflection on his rise from East End pubs to the O2.
