PICK OF THE DAY
BLACK NARCISSUS
9PM, BBC1 ★★★★★ Intoxicating, nightly threepart drama based on Rumer Godden’s 1939 novel. Unlike the 1947 film that was shot entirely in England, this has stunning location photography from Nepal. At a former palace high in the Himalayas, Sister Clodagh (Gemma Arterton, right) arrives with troubled Sister Ruth (Aisling Franciosi) and others to set up a convent. A place of extremes, it is, according to the only British local, Mr Dean (Alessandro Nivola), ‘an impossible place for a nunnery’. Are Clodagh and her sisters ready for this leap of faith?
ANTIQUES ROADSHOW: WHAT HAPPENED NEXT
8PM, BBC1 ★★★
Fiona Bruce is at Pinewood Studios – home of Star Wars, Superman, Black Narcissus (above) and more – for this special programme. She reveals what happened to notable finds after the cameras stopped rolling – how much did a guitar once owned by The Beatles fetch at auction?
THE SUPERVET AT CHRISTMAS
8PM, CH4 ★★★ It’s Christmas at Fitzpatrick Referrals, and some famous faces are hoping that Noel can perform wonders for their beloved pets. First, singer Will Young arrives with Diamond, his limping pitbull/labrador cross; then, supermodel Yasmin Le Bon rushes in with her poorly French bulldog, Willow.
BACK TO THE 80S WITH LENNY HENRY
9PM, CH4 ★★★★
Channel 4 looks back on four decades since it launched with a series celebrating its groundbreaking, headline-grabbing shows. He gets things off to a flying start and, over the next three nights, he’s followed by Vic Reeves (9pm), Davina Mccall (10pm) and Jimmy Carr (10pm). SIMONE ANDREWS
