Earth is invaded by purple aliens called the Boov in this chirpy animation, with humans restricted to their own sector. At its soft, gooey centre is the relationship between an outcast Boov called Oh (voiced by The Big Bang Theory’s Jim Parsons), a stray human girl (Rihanna) and her pet cat, Pig.

BEAUTY AND THE BEAST (2017) PG

● 2.20PM, BBC1 ★★★★ Disney’s brilliant live-action remake of its own hit 1991 animation stars Emma Watson as Belle, the young woman who makes a lasting impression on the enchanted beast who imprisoned her father. Underneath all that hair, it’s Downton’s Dan Stevens.

THE PINK PANTHER (1963) PG

● 5.40PM, ITV4 ★★★★ Director Blake Edwards had a string of comic hits in the 1960s and 1970s, and this rib-tickler is one of his most hilarious. David Niven stars as the upper-crust jewel thief plotting an audacious crime – but it’s Peter Sellers as clumsy Inspector Clouseau that everyone remembers.
